There’s nothing new about these Combine soldiers that I like. The classes are just… ugh, and the shouts, models and animations are silly and/or inferior to those of HL2. And that flatline on death: that used to be a Civil Protection thing. I really liked the differences between “metrocops” and the Combine soldiers, but the developers have mashed fascist authoritarian pigs into the same uniform as cyborg slave soldiers? Why? It’s like when I was a kid and I would find my little brother playing with my toys the “wrong way.” I know it’s somewhat irrational of me, but these kind of changes really put me off from rebooted projects like Alyx, Star Wars and Star Trek. I really wish people who take on the creative works of others would have more respect for the way things were. There was plenty of untapped potential in the Half Life world, and no need to blend the Combine and Civil Protection together into such an awkward, waddling bastard.

I feel like the Zombines having similar equipment to the Ordinals has something to do with the fact that a lot of the ordinals still in operation seem to be more fully-fledged or have some degree of veterancy; while the Grunt outfits are kind of flimsy Hazmat suits that look newer, the Ordinals' equipment is older and sturdier. It could be that the infected Combine troops we see in game, since they're in older parts of the city and deeply infected areas, are from the same generation of soldiers that didn't survive, and were replaced by new inductees with worse equipment.

My favorite thing in gmod is to create an invincible combine squad, have them follow the “leader” and their ai depending on the map works wonders. It’s crazy how good the ai is despite being so simple. The strategy they employ is amazing to watch. Just a sightseer watching combine do their job. City ruins 2 was the one I used as the creator did a fantastic job making ai paths and nodes. The ai is amazing but without the proper tools for them they don’t work. Npcs can jump, striders can move, they can take cover snd fire from it, and birds/scanners can do their thing IF the mapper created the nodes properly.

Came back to appreciate the dynamic animation system for their walking. Seriously underrated system. I love it doing its thing procedurally.

It took me awhile, but I finally got them all, but I had to wait until Sallys playthrough… I’m pretty sure the game blocks out a few of them as Arthur, as it makes you continue on and start the next character… i slept like 150 days trying to watch the last 3 I had left, but they wouldn’t come, but almost AS SOON as I started Sallys playthrough, I got the remaining shows… Great game tho, regardless. Just 100 per cented the game, now I’m off to the dlcs
